Overview
Our client, specialist digital experience consultancy helping enterprise organisations maximise the return on their data and marketing technology investments is looking for a AEP Solution Architect to join their team
The business is technology agnostic, partnering with leading platforms including Adobe, Google, Tealium and other enterprise MarTech solutions to help clients create data-driven, personalised customer experiences.
The Role
The role will focus on one client, one of the UKs largest retailers and you will shape and own the technical direction of enterprise personalisation programmes built on Adobe Experience Platform.
This is ideal for an architect who still wants their hands on the platform. You will work alongside the lead Solution Architect, taking ownership of individual architecture workstreams, producing the designs and documentation that unblock delivery teams, and holding technical conversations with Adobe directly.
You will be embedded in a client programme working on an estate that is already live and already large. Much of the value in the role comes from reading that estate accurately, explaining why it behaves the way it does, and setting a credible path to something more maintainable.
Responsibilities
- Design solutions across Adobe Experience Platform, Real-Time CDP, Journey Optimizer and Customer Journey Analytics.
- Own discrete architecture workstreams end to end, from the open question through to a documented and agreed decision, with the designs, diagrams and options papers to support it.
- Act as the authority on platform behaviour, separating genuine AEP constraints from configuration and modelling problems.
- Diagnose issues across the stack, from schema and identity through segmentation and journey entry behaviour to activation.
- Design pre-computed attribute patterns in Data Distiller where platform constraints prevent calculation at query time.
- Assess platform foundations for scale, covering schema and identity design, profile store guardrails, sandbox strategy, consent and data governance.
- Define reusable patterns for schemas, audiences, journeys and measurement so delivery teams can build without architectural review on every request.
- Advise on orchestration design, contact governance and frequency capping, and on the boundary between platform decisioning and client-owned ranking services.
- Design measurement into solutions from the outset, including control group and holdout architecture, and protect it from contamination.
- Work alongside data engineering teams on ingestion, derived attributes and modelled data landing on profile.
- Review vendor technical specifications, test the assumptions in them against the client estate, and raise gaps early and constructively.
What Success Looks Like
- Builders in the platform get straight, authoritative answers quickly, and fewer questions need escalating to the vendor.
- Known constraints are documented once and stop being rediscovered by each team.
- Reusable patterns reduce the volume of one-off design work reaching the architecture team.
- Long-running problems are closed out and stop reappearing on the issues list.
- Platform foundations hold up as audience, journey and profile volumes grow.
- Architecture decisions are documented, agreed across teams, and still being followed six months later.
- Client colleagues are progressively able to answer the questions that currently require external support.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Hands-on experience architecting and delivering on Adobe Experience Platform and Real-Time CDP.
- Strong understanding of XDM schema design, identity resolution and profile unification at consumer scale.
- Detailed knowledge of AEP's practical constraints, covering profile store TTL and guardrails, segmentation evaluation and refresh behaviour, field value limits and journey duration limits.
- Strong SQL, including Data Distiller: querying the data lake, building derived attributes back onto profile, and scheduling refreshes.
- Experience working inside a live estate, reading schemas, queries and audience definitions written by others and explaining why they behave as they do.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Journey Optimizer, including journey design, contact policies and channel configuration.
- Familiarity with Customer Journey Analytics and the dataset preparation it depends on.
- Experience of data governance and consent frameworks, including DULE or equivalent models.
- Ability to produce architecture documentation that stands on its own once you leave the room.
- Confidence presenting and holding a technical position with senior stakeholders, and driving a decision to a close where ownership is shared.
- Experience working across cross-functional teams including analytics, CRM, engineering and marketing.
